Removing plastic waste from the sea with Rio Mare in Greece

Rio Mare in Greece teamed up with the environmental organization MEDASSET to carry out a series of seabed clean-ups to remove plastic waste and abandoned nets from our seas.

As part of our commitment to protect and preserve our marine ecosystem, our brand Rio Mare in Greece partnered with the international environmental organisation MEDASSET.

The aim of this partnership was to carry out a series of seabed clean-ups to remove plastic waste and nets from our seas.

A staggering amount of plastic ends up in the oceans every year, with 80% coming from land and the rest from human activities at sea.

As the focal point of our partnership, we focused on the removal of ghost nets from the sea. These “ghost nets” are thick, plastic nets that have been abandoned at sea or have accidentally been found there, and trap fish and turtles while polluting the marine ecosystem with plastic.

Thanks to the work carried out by our brand Rio Mare and MEDASSET, we managed to remove 2 tons of plastic waste from the sea.
